  1. READ.ME for Lp version 1.1C

  4. Lp is a print spooler for the Psion Series 3.
  5.  
  6. It was written to address a specific problem with OPL development
  7. on the Series 3 - there is no way to access the printing
  8. capabilities of the HWIF system within the OPL language. In
  9. particular, it is not possible to access the printer driver
  10. selected by a user and so produce print enhancements such as
  11. bold, underline etc. in a device-independent manner.

  13. Lp is written in C and provides this functionality to OPL
  14. programs, by interpreting generic print controls embedded in text
  15. files that are to be printed. An application creates such files
  16. in a \TMP directory on the Series 3, and these can then be
  17. printed asynchronously (i.e. when the user chooses) rather than
  18. as the application runs. Lp is of most use to third party
  19. developers, rather than to end-users directly.

  21. Lp has been released by Ferret Information Systems as
  22. 'Charityware' because of its general utility, and because it
  23. would not be in the best interests of end-users to juggle
  24. multiple conflicting print spoolers.

  28. donation of 1 UK pound to 'Shelter - the National Campaign for
  29. the Homeless' for each copy used, or a single donation of 20 UK
  30. pounds for twenty or more copies.
